As part of a team preparing for the implementation of a new electronic health records system, How can I use the five qualities outlined by Rogers (2003) to assist in preparing the nurses for the upcoming implementation.
Rogers Diffusion of innovation is a behavioral theory that describes the process the users goes through in the adoption or rejection of new ideas, practices, or technology. Main components of this theory are innovation, communication channels, time and social systems. Rogers suggests that there are five perceived attributes of an innovation that affect its uptake and use. These are:
Relative advantage whether an innovation is perceived as better than the idea it replaces;
Compatibility is the degree to which an innovation is perceived as congruous with the values, experiences, and needs of potential adopters
Complexity-whether an innovation is perceived as difficult to understand and use;
Trialability is the degree to which an innovation may be experimentally tested; and
Observability whether the results of an innovation are visible to others. (Rogers, 2003)
Stages of adoption that can be used to help the nurses:
Awareness – The nurses are exposed to the innovation so as to know some information about it.
Interest – The nurses becomes interested in the new idea and seeks additional information about it
Evaluation – The nurses mentally apply the innovation to his/her present and anticipated future situation, and then decides whether or not to try it
Trial – The nurses make full use of the innovation
Adoption – The nurses decide to continue the full use of the innovation.
Health care is rich in evidence based innovations, yet even such innovations are implemented successfully in one location, but it often disseminated slowly in other parts of world.

Describe three benefits of implementing an electronic health records system. Describe three barriers to successful implementation of an electronic health records system, and discuss how to overcome those barriers.
Research recent (within the last 5 years) Electronic Health Records (EHR) implementation issues by searching online or within the Rasmussen library. Discuss at least 2 issues identified, such as healthcare providers’ issues (physicians, nurses, and other users). Explain the challenges. How could these be mitigated? What do you think should be done? Reflect from your own experiences if you have encountered challenges, either professionally or as a patient, with EHR.
How will the implementation of electronic health records (EHRs) affect your role as an advanced practice nurse? What is the potential effect of comprehensive databases (for example, Big Data or cloud-based database systems) on your role as an advanced practice nurse? How will the use of EHR systems and comprehensive databases (for example, Big Data or cloud-based database systems) affect patient confidentiality?
What is the impact of electronic health records on health information exchange? Also, how can electronic health records affect accessibility? (Use your critical thinking to connect the different parts of the question. You may also choose to explain through an example).
142 Section 3. INFORMATICS, ANALI , CASE 3-25 Failure of an Electronic Health Record System tor decided to pull the Magnolia Hills Hospital implemented an EHR about six months ago. Your administrator decided to plug on the project a week ago because of all the problems that the facility was experiencing. Phye refused to use the system. They made the nurses print out everything so they could review the patients heal records. The physicians would write orders on a piece...
This week you learned about implementing electronic health records. Imagine that you are the HIT Director for a healthcare facility and you are tasked with leading the facility in converting their office to electronic health records. For this Assignment, you will design and construct a Microsoft PowerPoint® presentation that highlights the planning and implementation process when converting to electronic health records. You will present this PowerPoint to other stakeholders in the HIT Department. Please include the following topics in your...
please reply to this post and ask one question regarding this post: Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) are health records kept in a provider’s clinic, a pharmacy and in hospitals. The benefits of EMR’s include improving coordination of care and It is also meant to be safer when it comes to breaches. The ethical framework of EMRs is utilitarianism, which encourages the most good for the most people. Since Doctors, pharmacies and other health care providers have access to it, they...
Homework for Change Management and Implementation This exercise addresses the application of the principles discussed in the lectures and readings. Northside Medical is a small physician practice consisting of five doctors, four nurses, an office manager and two support staff. The owners of the practice, Dr. Strong and Dr. Recht announced at their last staff meeting that they'd been working with the office manager, Sonia McKesson to replace their antiquated electronic medical record system with one that meets the new...
Home Health of America is about to implement the new (EHR) Electronic Health Record. This (EHR) Electronic Health Record will be used by all of the nurses, nursing aides, therapists, and other staff members who work with patients in the patient’s home. It will also be accessed in the home office for billing and other administrative purposes. The chief executive officer mandated the big bang go-live strategy. He also mandated that the go-live begin on Monday, which is their busiest...
1. Discuss two benefits of the use of electronic health records (EHRs), one related to the care of an individual patient and one related to population health. How does the use of EHRs facilitate obtaining these benefits? 2. Describe a method by which a healthcare provider could both effectively interact with a patient and fulfill the requirements imposed by the healthcare institution’s EHR system Please include your reference for my review.
