Complementary and alternative medicine are alternative medical practices and medicines that are not integrated in the standard medical practices. They are not scientifically approved for medical benefits and possible side effects.

Some examples of alternative medicine are chiropathy, reki, Chinese medicine.

Sometimes scietifically approved treatments, products and services fails to treat the diseases. In such situations some CAM may help. While prescribing these alternative medicines the health professional holds ethical and moral responsibility to provide the patient with full information. The patient should be given the information regarding the benefits, side effects and price of these treatments. The health professional should also tell the patient about the success rate of such treatments.
