In healthcare communication takes place in two ways one by verbalisation and another by non verbalisation (therapeutic touch)

For instance a patient who has lost his job and seems upset

Nurse:Good evening Ms.YY

Patient:Good evening (in a hesitating and hopeless tone)

Nurse:Is there are any problem you voice seems to be very low and non energetic

Patient:nothing like that ,I am ok

Nurse:I hope that should be true (by establishing a gentle therapeutic touch on the shoulder)

Patient: Mmm ,but this illness...(weeps out or mourns in a lower tone)

Nurse: Ms.YY. If it is not a concern, you can share your problems, I will try to give my best possible solution to come out of it(giving a sense of hope and confidence by maintaining an eye contact)

Patient :I lost my job
