Aging is a process of becoming older. It is a process of becoming senescent

Aging : Aging results from the accumulation of damage to macromolecules, cells, tissues and organs with the passage of time. All the people who are having a long life experience aging.The number of elderly people is increasing year by year in the Country.

Biological theory of Aging

There are number of theories, that tried to explain the process of aging in terms of physiological causes. One of the popular theory is Wear and tear theory.

Wear and tear theory

This theory is coming under damage or theory of Aging. Wear and tear theory was first proposed by Dr. August Weismann in 1882. He was a German biologist. This theory keep up its stand even today after many decades and it is one of the most popular theory of Aging.

Wear and tear means damage or depreciation resulting from ordinary use. Wear and tear can be applied to cells and tissues also. After many years of functioning cells and tissues slowly loss its vitality because of wear and tear. It might be due to accumulation of damage or toxic substances in the cells or tissues.

Psychosocial theories of aging focuses on the Psychosocial aspects of Aging. The main theories of aging that focuses on the Psychosocial aspects of Aging are Activity theory, Continuity theory and disengagement theory. One of the popular theory is Activity theory.

Activity theory of Aging is related with the social life and activity of an individual. After 60 years most of the people undergo many specific changes like retirement,deterioration of physical and mental abilities and decline of Health. But those who are active in life and still maintains the social interaction can experience the individual satisfaction.

Activity theory emphasises the individual satisfaction through an active life even in the old age. Studies show that old age people, who are active and having a good family and social life can live longer than others, who are less active and separated.
