Answer #1

Enteral tube feeding is the delivery of nutritionally complete food directly into the gut by using a tube . The different types of tube feeding and their placement method are :-

1. Nasogastric tube feeding= it is placed at bedside itself by doctor ,or nurse . In this a tube called NGtube is inserted through the nose into the stomach after taking the measurements of how much tube has to be inserted (by calculating the lengths of tube from tip of the nose to ear lobe then to xiphisternum). Placement is confirmed by doing a X-ray most reliable method (other methods are also available )

2. Gastrostomy tube feeding = it is inserted surgically and the tube is placed into the stomach .

3. Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy tube feeding =it is placed endoscopically into the stomach.

4. Nasojejunal tube feeding = it is placed into the jejunum . Placed in the radiology lab under fluoroscopic guidance.

5. Gastric jejunal tube feeding =it is placed into or terminates into the small intestine surgically .

6. Percutaneous Endoscopic jejunal tube feeding = it is placed under endoscopy guidance into or terminates into small intestine.
