7. Scope of HCQ includes: a) Effectiveness of the treatment.

b) Cost of the treatment.

c) Quality of care in the health care unit.

d) Access to the health care facilities.

e) patient-centered care.

Quality scope includes seven pillars which are efficiency, efficacy, optimality, acceptability, legitimacy, equity, and cost.

8. Donabedian model of HCQ is used for quality improvement. This model is based on three factors which help to improve the quality and performance of a health care unit.

Three factors are structure, processes and outcomes of care.

  1. Structure: it defines the stable elements or input of the health care unit like patients, infrastructure, supplies, physicians.
  2. Process: it defines the actions which should be taken to make connection between patients and care providers, like coordination of nurses and doctors.
  3. Outcome of care : it defines the results of the care. It includes patient’s health, satisfaction and cost of treatment.

8. Prof. Avedis Donabedian was a general practitioner physician who was originally from Beirut, Lebanon. He was a distinguished professor of public health at University of Michigan and made a tremendous contribution in public health. He considered healthcare as a system and emphasized on the importance of quality in health care system.

He contributed to HCQ by addressing following issues: 1) Access of patients to healthcare.

2) Measurement and evaluation of quality in the healthcare.

3) Cultural preference in healthcare.

4) Importance of medical records- storage, completeness and accuracy.

5) Patient satisfaction.
