Apixabam is an oral anticoagulant, which inhibits coagulating factor Xa. Hence it is used for the treatment of venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolus as well as stroke conditions. As per the effect of nutrition is considered, it is advised not to take vitamin K rich diet along with its therapy as impede its effect. Its elimination occurs via biliary excretion, by feces or by intestinal excretion. It affects the elimination of other drugs if taken concurrently and thus possesses the elimination type interaction. Abixacam lowers the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.
