The most important fundamental dimension in economic analysis is time due to the time value of money.

Since engineering economics attempts to evaluate alternatives and then decide which alternative is most economical, the element of time is supremely important. The costs and benefits from an alternative over time are calculated and then economic feasibility of the aternative is evaluated.
