Question: What is the dinension of speed which is distance traveled per unlt time? QUESTION 7 10 points Just lke the old saying you cannot compare apples to oranges we cannot equate two quantitles whose drmenslons are not the same. Example: 10 dollars 4.9 °C makes no sense as an equation. The left and right side of an equation must have the same dimension. We can use this rule to determine the dimension of a variable in an equation. Example: in the equation x = 2 π¡fr has the dimension of [L] then we know that x must have a dimension of [L]. Furthermore, if the unit of r is ㎝ then x must have a unit of cm. Question: Given the equation atot ar+ aan If the dimension of atot Is ILVTI what is the dimension of ar and atan? Answer #1

We can add only those quantities which are same in dimension

Therefore the dimensions of radial and tangential accelerations will also be same and

a_r = [L]/[T^2]

and

a_{tan} = [L]/[T^2]

thus

atot = ar + atan

or

[L]/[T^2]=[L]/[T^2]+[L]/[T^2]
