Evidence based practice is traditional patient care method followed in both medicine and nursing.

Evidence based practice (EBP) is 'the integration of best research evidence with clinical expertise and patient values' which when applied by nurses will ultimately lead to improved patient outcome.

Evidence based practice uses best research evidences before proceeding with patient care. EBP helps in improving the quality of patient care.

There are mainly three components in EBP. Those are

  • Individual clinical expertise
  • Best External evidences
  • Patient values and expectations

Purpose of Evidence based practice in patient care management:-

  • Improving patient outcomes.
  • Patients expect to receive the most effective care based on the best available evidence.
