The diabetic women were observed for a total of 1,526 person- years; the non-diabetic women were observed for a total of 31,806 person-years. Incidence Density = New deaths \div total person-years

Incidence density for diabetic = 83 \div 1526

                                               = 0.0543 deaths per person-year

For 1000 person-years = 54.3 deaths

Incidence density for non-diabetic = 422 \div 31806

                                                     = 0.0132

For 1000 person-years = 13.2 deaths
