Answer #1

3.Given

Medication:Penicillin G

Order:100,000 units/kg/day (that is 1kg=100,000)

The child weighs 55lbs =24.9 kg or 25kg on rounding off (0.454×55)

So when 1kg=100,000units

Then 25kg=??units

Cross multiply and divide

=100,000×25÷1

=2,500,000 units /day

Frequency:6 hourly (4 times a day )

So 1 dose= 2,500,000÷4

=625,000 units/dose

Time:1 hour

Total volume:100ml

Drop factor:15 gtt/min (standard rate)

Flow rate =Total volume ×drop factor ÷Time (hr)×60

=100×15÷1×60

=100÷4

=25gtt/min

Ans:The infusion has to be set a patient 25gtt/min

6.Given

Medication:Valproic acid

Available:250mg/capsule

Order:30mg/kg

So for a weight of 25kg =??mg

Cross multiply and divide

=30×25÷1

=750mg

So it 750mg per oral twice a day

Route:Oral

Frequency:Twice a day

As 1 capsule =250mg

Therefore 750mg=3(750÷250)

Ans:3 capsules per dose and total 6 capsules in two divided doses

9.Given

Medication:Tylenol

Available:160mg/5ml

Order :12mg/kg

So 25 kg=300mg(12×25)

When 160mg=5 ml

Then 300mg=??ml

Cross multiply and divide

=300×5÷160

=1500÷160

=9.3 ml

Ans:Tge child will receive a dose of 9.3 ml per dose
