Answer #1

Solution 8.

a) TRUE

Atomic mass of Phophorus = 30.97 g/mole

Now, As we know from the Avogadro Number concept that 1 mole contains 6.022 X 1023 elementary entities

so,

30.97 g of phosphorus ( or 1 mole of Phosphorus) contains 6.022 X 1023 atoms.

b) FALSE

The solubility of gas decreases as temperature increases.

As we know that when temperature increases, kinetic energy also increases. This increased kinetic energy leads to more motion in gases which causes the breaking of intermolecular bonds and hence gases escape the solution.

c) TRUE

The elements of group 2A (like Magnesium, Calcium) have two electrons in their outermost orbit. The elements of group 2A are electropositive in nature and they show a tendency to lose these two valence electrons and gain two positive charges.

d) TRUE

Oxygen is more electronegative than sulfur because oxygen has a smaller atomic radius and hence the bonding electrons are closer to the nucleus which exerts a higher pull. Bonding electrons in sulfur are further away and there is double layer of sheilding (as compared to oxygen which has one layer only).
