Examination of a new patient reveals gingivitis. In addition, the patient has generalized calculus deposits and numerous restoration with overhangs. What steps might be necessary to bring the gingivitis under control in this patient?

Answer) gingivitis is inflammation of the gums. This is mainly due to bacterial plaque or films. Many drugs also cause gingivitis like phenytoin, anti angina drugs,etc.vitamin c deficiency leads to gingivitis also. Cases of gingivitis are more in smokers as compared to the non smokers.

Symptoms of the gingivitis are bright red or purple gums, tender gums, bleeding from the gums, halitosis or bad smell from mouth.

We should brush twice daily to maintain oral hygiene.

Rinse mouth regularly with an antiseptic mouthwash.

Floss teeth once a day minimum.

Plaques and tartar are removed by the process of scaling.
