Lack of rest can lead to physical strain first followed by mental strain. The physical strain may lead to decreased quality of patient care in the work environment by not having enough energy to carry one self during the shift.This can lead to myalgia ,headache ,loss of balance, frustration ,weakness and accidents .Similarly it can increase one's anger when there is no adequate rest contributing to medical errors easily.
Substance use or abuse is even more dangerous when a healthcare professionals use it.It can disrupt the central nervous system function lead to loss of control psychologically. This can lead to definite errors in patient care irrespective of how well experienced they are.
Hence it has to be strictly restricted to provide a safe patient care .The staffs has to be given adequate time to rest and relax after a duty in order to rejuvenate themselves a mb d provide a safe patient care.
