1. Discuss the change to the DIRECT method of exchange.

Direct method

• All over head costs are allocated directly from the overhead department to the patient services department with no recognition that overhead services are provided.
• The difficult part of Direct Exchange is not its technical aspect,but establishing the uniform conditions of privacy,security,identity and trust necessary for direct exchanges to take place at a scale.
• The availability of a standards-based network for inter operable exchange of health information is not sufficient to motivate actual exchange.
• Some EHR and their customers have business models opposed to the exchange of patient data with competetitors,even those caring for the same patients.
• New technologies for interoperability that will rely on fundamental aspects of work are on the way and recieving enthusiastic support from most health IT vendors.
