Medical malpractice refers to the action of a healthcare professionals which can cause harm to a patient when they do not follow the standard or guidelines in a patient care

Defensive medicine is a form carried out by a healthcare provider by doing unnecessary medical procedures or test in order to protect and save them during any legal issues arised by the patient.

The main difference here is in medical malpthe patients may have an physical or psychological trauma by a healthcare professional and in defensive medicine the patient may not have a major physical or emotional trauma rather an increased medical expenditure by undergoing unnecessary test without their knowledge and the need of it .In simple the provider wants to avoid any threat of liability in future and taking defensive medicine as their saver.
