CASE STUDY C Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Ms. A.S, age 31, has been diagnosed with systemic lupus ery- thematosus. She had her first signs and symptoms 2 years ago. At this time she is having an exacerbation, which includes a facial rash, joint pains, and chest pain. She also has protein in her urine, indicating a kidney abnormality. 1. Explain the basic pathophysiology of this disease. 2. Describe three factors that would assist in making the diagnosis. 3. Describe the typical rash Ms. A.S. would have at this time. 4. Her chest pain is due to inflammation of the pleural membranes. Explain why this pain would be more severe during inspiration. 5. Her dose of prednisone, a glucocorticoid, has been increased. Briefly explain why she will return to a lower dose after the exacerbation ends. 6. Explain why moderate exercise would be helpful.

1)PATHOPYSIOLOGY:::Systemic lupus errythamatous is occurred by environmental elements that are not find out.In this disease condition,the immune system of the body make antibodies in contrast to its own functions.Especially,against the proteins which presents inthe nucleus cell.This antigen antibody assault is the instant cause of systemic lupus errythamatous.2)DIAGNOSIS:::patient will show typical symptoms of this disease in which the main symptoms including sun sensitivity rashes,arthritis,and Rynaud's phenomenon (fingers become white or blue and there will be tingling sensation while getting cold)::.:3)Ms.A.S has facial rash which is called butterfly rash.In this rashes will be present in the cheeks and nose.This occurs due to the sun sensitivity.This also known as a malar.4)patient with Systemic lupus errythamatous has pleuriitis.beacuse,this disease affects the lungs of patient through inflammation of the outer layer of lungs(pleura).thus,Patient will have pain while moving the chest.Therefore,Ms.A.S has chest pain during breathing...5)High dosage of SLE medicine can cause cardiac arrest or stroke.Inorder to prevent such complications it is better to reduce the dose when patient becomes normal.6) IMPACT OF EXERCISE::physical activity will be helpful 1)to restore the physical functions,2)enhances mobility ,3)patient get free from pain,4)assist to prevent the occurrence of physical disabilities .Thus,patient should consult with a physiotherapist to overcome the problems which happens due to this disease condition.
