Are functional strategies interdependent, or can they be formulated independently of other functions? Give some example of this.

Functional approaches are corporate Advertising, Human Resources, R&D and other functional fields. This promotes approaches at both the organizational and company levels. I think functional approaches should be interdependent, because after all, a company represents a network of interdependent and interrelated pieces. All of a firm's functional areas have to work in harmony and follow the corporate strategy package.

Functional approaches should therefore be coordinated and matched with the organizational strategies. For example, a R&D plan may rely on an investment or hiring new staff to support the implementation.

While functional approaches can be formulated independently they are interrelated due to underlying objectives.
Although it may be possible to formulate functional approaches in isolation, they must interact with other functions. Even though the financial plan is formulated separately, for example, it has to be applied through other functions.
