The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is also known as or shortened as Affordable Care Act (ACA). It is nicknamed Obamacare . It represents the U.S. healthcare system's . The most significant regulatory and expansion of healthcare coverage since the passage of Medicare and Medicaid . It was enacted by the 111th United States Congress.

Introduced in the House as the "Service Members Home Ownership Tax Act of 2009" by Charles Range on September 17, 200.
Passed the House on November 7, 2009
Passed the Senate as the "Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act" on December 24, 2009 with amendment
House agreed to Senate amendment on March 21, 2010.
Signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010.
# The challenges this act offered were :-
1. The main challenge was profits of the insurance companies have largely decreased because now they have to manage healthcare costs for people with pre-existing medical conditions and cover the entire costs of preventive services.
2. Second challenge was that in 2012, a Supreme Court law came to action that further complicated the insurance companies situation by allowing states to choose whether or not to expand their Medicaid coverage to insure more low-income individuals .
3. Payers are not allowed to charge higher premiums for patients with existing medical conditions and complex medical conditions, resulting some companies to incur losses on paying for their care.
4. Raised the income tax rates and taxed those who don't purchase insurance
