Explain how behavioral factors might impact the pathophysiology of GERD, PUD, and gastritis.
Gastritis, Gasto-intestinal Reflux Disease, Peptic Ulcer Disease, all these are the digestive system disorders that have pathophisiology related to stomach and the surrounding organs. The basic pathophisiology of all these diseases concerns with the irritation to the stomach epithelium and formation of illness and symptoms associated with it. But it is seen that lifestyle and behavioral factors are closely associated with development of such diseases.
Researches found that some behaviors such as improper sleep habit and poor diet are closely related to influence the pathophysiology of GERD. GERD is the condition that cause reflux actions in stomach and retrieval of food from stomach to nostrils or food pipe. It is also seen that insomnia, poor dietary habits, consumption of coffee, spicy food, alcohol and smoking are closely related to development of this disorder.
Similarly, gastritis and peptic ulcer are also derivatives of behavioral elements, use of alcohol, smoking and spicy food impacts the severity of these diseases and also cause its development. Physical inactivity, and substance use also cause these disorders.
