Why does hypoxemia and tissue hypoxia develop slower in children than in adults?

I have not been able to figure out this question, please help!!

Hypoxia is defined as abnormally low oxygen and hypoxaemia is the low oxygen level in the blood.Hypoxaemia can cause hypoxia,but it can also occur via other mechanisms such as anaemia.Children have less energy reserve than adults ,as they have smaller number of alveoili,particularly in the premature/young infant,places the child at a higher risk of hypoxaemia.Children also has a significantly higher metabolic rate than adults.Their respiratory rate are faster and their demand for oxygen is higher.In any situation of respiratory distress ,infants and children will develop hypoxaemia more rapidly than adults.
