Why does hypoxemia and tissue hypoxia develop slower in children than in adults?
I have not been able to figure out this question, please help!!
Hypoxia is defined as abnormally low oxygen and hypoxaemia is the low oxygen level in the blood.Hypoxaemia can cause hypoxia, but it can also occur via other mechanisms such as anaemia.Children have less energy reserve than adults ,as they have smaller number of alveoili, particularly in the premature/young infant, places the child at a higher risk of hypoxaemia.Children also has a significantly higher metabolic rate than adults.Their respiratory rate are faster and their demand for oxygen is higher. In any situation of respiratory distress ,infants and children will develop hypoxaemia more rapidly than adults.

One possible explanation for this phenomenon is that first-borns have undivided attention from their parents. If that explanation is correct, then it is also reasonable that twins should show slower language development that single children and that triplets should be even slower. Davis (1937) investigated this possiblity The following data are similar to what Davis found. The scores represent a measure of language...
