15. Surgical staples are used for wound closure. Staples provide a stronger closure as compared to stitches. They are also easy to apply and remove.
When the wound is clean and healed without infection removal of staples should not cause any kind of pain. Proper patient instructions and educating the patient about staple removal process helps minimise patient anxiety and fear.
So when the patient asks whether he would experience pain during staple removal is that he would not experience pain during the procedure but he may feel pinching, tugging or pulling of skin sensations. If in case he feels pain he can inform and have an analgesic if needed.
