The Ultica Shale is a black, calcareous, organic rich shole that underlies significant portions of Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia & other parts of eastern North America. The Ultica Shale is located a few thousand feet below Marcellus Shale . It is also in similar basin; and is a widely known as source of natural gas. Ultica Shele has not been extensively developed for two reasons like :- is greet depth over much of geographic extent i linited ability to yeild gas and oil to a well due to Now production is started horizontal drilling & hydraulic fracturing.
