Cerebral palsy has been described as a group of permanent disorders of the development of movement and posture. In addition to motor disorders, the condition often involves disturbances of sensation, perception, communication, cognition, and behavior.

Scenario:

Romel Jones is an 18- month-old infant who was seen this week at the developmental pediatrician’s office and was diagnosed with spastic cerebral palsy. The pediatrician’s office referred him because he is not standing or walking, and is having difficulty swallowing table food that has not been pureed. He has hypertonia of the lower extremities. Romel is the fourth child of a 26-year-old single mother, He was born at 24 weeks’ gestation with a birth weight of 1 pound 4 ounces, and spent 3 months in the neonatal ICU, where his treatment included mechanical ventilation and tube feedings. His weight gain has been slow but steady, and Romel is currently at the 10th percentile on the standard growth charts for both height and weight. Romel’s mother is very upset at hearing his diagnosis. She states she does not know anything about cerebral palsy and she doesn’t know how she is going to cope with the care that Romel will need.

In 200 words or more, please do the following:

    1. Discuss which members the RN would include on the interdisciplinary team to help Romel and his family.

    2. Include at least five different health care professionals.

    3. Discuss why these members should be included and how you would evaluate the effectiveness of the care provided by that health care professional.

The members in the multidisciplinary team should include a physician or child specialist or child psychiatrist, Registered nurse, child psychologist, Physiotherapist, occupational therapist, psychiatric social worker. The team should adress the issues faced by the mother in the individidual level, family level and the community level. The main role of the nurse must be supportive work with the mother and cordinate all these activities. The physician has to monitor the health related issues of the child and follow up measures regarding the same. Child psychologist will be adressing the therapeutic needs of the child and educating the mother how to stumulate the problem he was facing what are the help can be provided by the mother to adress these issues and the desease problem helping in the mother to understand the developmental mile stones.

The physiotherapist shopuld help the child to have physiotherapy session for the muscle and body and these excersises were taught to the mother also so she can able to practice to the child in the absents of the therapist. Occupational therapist also help in being doing the fine motor skills for the long standard of time and also taught the mother the same. The psychiatric social worker will work in the community and identify ngo's or other organisation working in the feild and help the family to coordinate with the same. Also help to the welfare benefits for the child as well as the mother.
