Answer #1

●Given

Order:Meperidine

Dose:29mg

Available:100mg/ml (i.e., 100mg=1ml)

Therefore 29mg=??ml

Cross multiply and divide

=29×1÷100

=29÷100

=0.29

Ans:0.29ml should be given

●Given

Order:Fentanyl

Dose:42mcg

Route:Intramuscular

Available:250mcg/ml(i.e. 250mcg÷1ml)

Cross multiply and divide

=42×1÷250

=42÷250

=0.168

Ans:0.168ml to be given

●Given

Weight:21lbs(0.454×21=9.5kg)

Order:Captopril

Dose:3mg

Route:oral

Frequency:four times a day

Safe range:0.3_0.5mg/kg/day

When 0.3mg=1kg

Then 9.5kg=??mg

Cross multiply and divide

=9.5×1÷0.3

=9.5÷0.3

=31.6 mg

When 0.5 mg=kg

Then 9.5kg=??mg

Cross multiply and divide

=9.5×1÷0.5

=9.5÷0.5

=19mg

So the safe dose range is 19mg-31.6 mg/day (four doses)

So if 1 dose =3mg then 4 dose =4×3=12mg

12mg/day

The disease is below safe dose range

For instance if 12mg/day to be administered

Available:1mg/ml

So 12mg=??ml

Cross multiply and divide

=12×1÷1

=12ml/day

For single dose 12÷4=3ml

Ans:3ml to be administered

●Given

Weight:112lbs(0.454×112=50.8kg or 51kg)

So for 1st 10kg =100ml

2nd 10kg=50ml (so from 11kg to 20kg=50ml)

From 21 kg to 51 kg it will be 20ml×additional kg

Therefore it is 20×30=600ml

So the total fluid is 100ml+50ml+600ml=750ml

Flow rate =Total volume ÷Time (hr)

=750÷24

=31.25 or 31

Ans:31ml/hr
