Answer #1

Prescribed dose - 2.5mg/kg every 8 hours IV to be infused over 30 minutes.

Patient weight is 12 kg

So, Patient needs

2.5mg/kg\times 12kg = 30 mg

The pharmacy sends a 20 ml syringe containing 17 ml of medication labeled gentamycin 2mg/ml.

30 mg\div 2mg/ml=15ml

So you have to infuse 15 ml in 30mintues.

15ml\div 30 min = 0.5ml/min

0.5ml \times 60 min = 30 ml

You should set the pump rate at 30 ml per hour.
