Metabolism is the major process which occurs continuously in our body.it is the process by which our body converts our food particles into energy in order to contain body functions. In the process of metabolism, the food particles combined with oxygen in order to release energy .
There are two main reactions which occur during metabolism in order to release energy. They are catabolic reaction and anabolic reaction. Catabolic reaction means breakdown of large organic molecules to smaller molecules releasing energy contained in chemical bonds. If 100% is mentioned then 40% is converted into high energy molecule which is adenine triphosphate (ATP) . ATP is the main source of energy for molecules of the cell. It is helpful in building new tissue and also for functions of organs such as lungs, heat , etc. The other 60% is given as heat which is absorbed by tissue and body fluids.
Moving on to the anabolic reaction , it is the joining of smaller molecules into larger ones. Which are monosaccharides combine together to form polysaccharides, fatty acids with combine together to form triglycerides , amino acids combine together in order to form proteins, nucleotides combines to form nucleic acid...
