1. The various levels of organization of the body are :

a) cells : cells are the fundamental unit of life. They perform internal respiration and are the sites that ultimately provide energy to the proper functioning of the body.

b) tissues : tissues are a group of cells and they have a definite function throughout the body. For example : nerve tissue conducts impulses and muscle tissue helps in movement.

c) organs : organs are a group of different kinds of tissue that perform a certain function. For example: stomach is an organ and is involved in digestion.

d) organ system : this is a group of organs forming a complete system that performs a function. For example : digestive system has stomach, pancreas, etc. which are different organs.

e) organism: organism is the group of all the organ systems and is an individual entity. A man or a dog is an organism.
