What assumption do we make about the composition of the cornea which allows us to predict the amount of material ablated or to predict the volume of a gas bubble created by a laser pulse? What property is key to modeling the ablation? What property is key to modeling the gas bubble volume? What do we need to know about the laser?

Answer #1

Answer :)

The cornea is made of the stroma of eye, which has 78% water, and 16% collagen. Therefore, the cornea is viscous and elastic too. This nature of cornea gives the laser to count the thickness of the ablation or volume of a gas bubble created.

To modeling the ablation, the laser treatment uses The Munnerlyn Formula, which as below.

t = S2 D/3

Here t is the thickness of the tissue ablated in microns, D is the dioptric correction, and S is the diameter of the optical zone in millimeters.

the volume of the bubble is estimated by the duration of gas flow. Nowadays femtosecond laser is more convenient to use as it does not produce bubbles normally.

Moreover, we need to know about the laser's power and duration of its application, percentage of tissue ablation, estimation of Risk Score.
