Have you ever considered how we come to understand the world around us? Think about that question for a minute. What is science, and how do we use it to solve real-world problems? In our first discussion, I want to delve into thinking about the nature of biology. This includes what it is, the major themes, and how we come to form claims or knowledge.

You should spend approximately 3 hours on this assignment.

Instructions

  1. Use the text readings and Exploration page to answer the major discussion question: What is science, and what is biology in particular?

    • In addition to answering this question, please find two news articles (from trade magazines or news sites like The New York Times or The Washington Post, but not blog sites), one of which is on basic biology and the other applied biology. Share the articles or the links to the articles. For each, write a short paragraph summarizing the article and supporting why you think the science in the article is either applied or basic biology.

    • Also, identify what knowledge or claim in the article was made as a result of the science, and explain if and how the scientific process was used.

    • For the applied biology article only, describe the independent, dependent, and control variables of the experiment discussed. Don't know what these variables are? Help is Here.
    • Finally, identify which of the major themes in biology from the text is represented in both articles. Briefly describe the theme and the connection.

    • All references must be cited using APA Style. Please refer to the CCCOnline APA Citation Toolkit.

  2. Often you need subscriptions to explore trade magazines online; the CCCOnline Library provides access to several. Here are a couple options to help you get started:

    • Option 1:

      • Log in to the Science Reference Center

      • Select “Advanced Search.”

      • In the Publication Type box, select “Trade Publication.”

      • Type in your keyword or topic search (e.g., biology, biology research, etc.), and enter any other search parameters (last five years, for example).

    • Option 2:

      • Log in to the 21st Century Science & Technology Magazine.

      • Click on “Search within this publication” to search the magazine.

      • Type in your keyword or topic search (e.g., biology, biology research, etc.), and enter any other search parameters (last five years, for example).

  1. Review resources on how to conduct library searches using the CCCOnline Library.

  2. Initial discussion posts should have a minimum word length of 150 words.

  3. Respond to at least two of your classmates' initial posts. Do so by analyzing whether your classmates "applied biology" article could also be classified as "basic biology". If so, why? Response posts should be a minimum of 50 words.

See the Course Schedule and Course Rubrics sections in the Syllabus module for due dates and grading information. See the Grading and Evaluation section in the Syllabus module for general discussion expectations.

Answer #1

Answer 1:)

The definition of science cannot bind in words. However, we can explain its definition in the way of scientific approach. That is ‘Science is the study of the natural and physical world via observations and makes the observations clear through experiments’. Therefore, Science is everywhere.

The science of life is the name of Biology that is derived from two Greek words ‘bios’ and ‘logos’ having meanings life and study respectively. The people who study are called as Biologists. They learn about the structure, growth, function, origin, distribution, and evolution of living organisms. There are at least nine fields of biology.

  • Botany: it is the study of plants with agriculture
  • Biochemistry: it is the study of the material constituents that structure living things
  • Cellular biology: it is the study of cells and its functions
  • Evolutionary biology: the origins and variations under the diversity of life, study under evolutionary biology.
  • Ecology: under this, the interaction of organisms with their environment is studied.
  • Genetics: it is the learning about heredity
  • Physiology: it is the learning about the functions of organisms and parts of their body.
  • Molecular biology: it is the study of various biological molecules
  • Zoology: it is the learning about animals with animal behavior

Please read the article and answer about questions. You and the Law Business and law are inseparable. For B-Money, the two predictably merged when he was negotiat- ing a deal for his tracks. At other times, the merger is unpredictable, like when your business faces an unexpected auto accident, product recall, or government regulation change. In either type of situation, when business owners know the law, they can better protect themselves and sometimes even avoid the problems completely. This chapter...
