An example to describe the concept of patient empowerment when the medical ethical principle of autonomy is established while making a discussion to withdraw the life support of a terminally ill patient by taking the consent of the patient regarding the same, i.e. considering the patient as due stakeholders. This can be compared to patient disempowerment, which happens when the patient is not consulted regarding the delivery of any medical intervention.
