Answer #1

Redundant arrays of independent disks are used for connecting multiple disks into one big disk. This allows an organisation to create redundant data and store them into disks. These allows users to not loose their data when there is a disaster. RAID is used for higher reliability and higher performance.

The following is the type of RAID with their characteristics:

RAID LEVEL COST AVAILABILITY RESPONSE TIME RELIABILITY
RAID 0 LOWEST Readily Available HIGH response time Not reliable
RAID 1 Double cost then RAID 1 Easily available medium response time Reliable
RAID 2 High cost Not easily available Low response time Reliable
RAID 3 Lower cost then RAID 2 Available Medium Response time not reliable
RAID 4 High cost Available High response time Reliable
RAID 5 most costlier than RAID 4 Easily available High response time Reliable
RAID 6 Costly Available High response time Reliable
