Question 2. What are Helicopter pylori and how does it develop?

Helicobacter pylori is a  helically or spiral shaped, gram- negative bacteria which enter in the body through consuming food or water contaminated with fecal matter. It can live in the digestive tract and liver for long time without causing any symptoms. The bacteria can infect the lining of the stomach and small intestine and cause damage and ulcer formation and cause gastritis and peptic ulcer.

Question 2. Magnesium sulfate is used to treat preeclampsia. How does this medication work to help this disorder? How does this medication affect the fetus?

Preeclampsia is a complication occur usually in the third trimester during pregnancy which is characterized by a sudden rise in blood pressure and swelling, mostly in the face, hands, and feet which can leads to eclampsia.

Magnesium sulfate is used as a drug of choice as a prophylactic treatment in severe cases as an anticonvulsant drug to prevent the occurrence of seizure. Magnesium sulphate act as a calcium antagonist and there by trigger vasodilation.Thus reduce brain Ischemia and chance of seizure. It also alter neuromuscular transmission by blocking the entry of calcium into synaptic endings.

In the baby, maternal use of magnesium sulphate more than 5- 7 days can cause poor muscle control due to low muscle tone and low bone density due to osteopenia. These conditions can can leads to risk for injuries, such as bone fractures, and even death.

Question. What are Myxedema, Cretinism and Thyroid Storm?

Myxedema is severely advanced hypothyroidism where the body produce very less amount of thyroid hormones which can lead to myxedema crisis, myxedema coma and death. The condition is characterized by swollen and puffy skin, non pitting edema due to the deposition of f mucopolysaccharides in the dermis seen in lower legs, lips, tongue and around eyes.

Cretinism is also known as congenital hypothyroidism or congenital iodine deficiency syndrome which may be due to deficiency of iodine in the mother's diet during pregnancy. The condition can lead to growth retardation, developmental delay, and other abnormal features in the infants. It can also leads to delay in bone maturation, delayed puberty in children and infertility in adulthood.

Thyroid Storm is a life threatening condition due to uncontrolled hyperthyroidsm or high levels of thyroid hormones which is characterized by tachycardia more than 140 beats per minute, blood pressure and hyperthermia in a very high levels. The causes can be under treated and untreated hyperthyroidsm, infection of thyroid gland. The other symptoms include diaphoresis, agitation, restlessness, confusion and unconsciousness.
