PREVENTIVE STRATEGIES INVOLVED TO BREAST FEEDING ADVISORIES:

Strategy 1:Maternity care practice:

  • It is related to the breast feeding that takes place during the intrapartum hospital stay and practice can also include immediate prenatal care,care during labor pains and postpartum care.
  • It support breast feeding including a written breast feeding policy for the facility and providing education to mother and encouraging early breast feeding initiation and follow up after post discharge.
  • Maternity care practice can have a negative effect on breast feeding using medication during labor and giving water or sugar water to breastfeeding infants when not medically necessary.

Strategy 2: Professional Education:

  • Education can improve knowledge,attitude,skills and behavior in relation to the importance of breast feeding, physiology of lactation,counsel the mothers about breast feeding.
  • Health care provider such as physicians,nurses,nutritionist,lactation consultants and other professionals working in maternity care.

Strategy 3: Access to professional support:

  • Health care professional can counsel the mother about the important of pregnancy,after giving birth.It may also include to counsel the mother and baby with lactating position, helping with a lactation crisis and counseling mother returning to work.

Strategy 4:Supporting Program:

  • Goal of supporting program can encourage and support pregnant and breast feeding women. It can also provide specific education and training about feeding.
