What does knowledge, truth, and belief means? Why these ideas are important in the study of philosophy?
Knowledge is a subset of true beliefs. A belief is a mental state that may or may not refer to facts. Truth and falsehood are properties of beliefs. A true belief refers to facts. A false belief does not refers to fact.
Knowledge is a particular kind of belief that has evidence and justified. Knowledge is objective truth while belief is subjective truth. Belief, however, is an idea or concept which is held as true to the individual who holds it, and not necessarily to anyone (or everyone) else. Belief and knowledge have always been vulnerable to philosophical skepticism.
Knowledge could be a part of particular truth or universal truth. Belief must be considered as a part of a universal truth.
These ideas are important in the study of philosophy, we must determine the nature of knowledge; that is, what does it mean to say that someone knows, or fails to know, something? This is a matter of understanding what knowledge is, and how to distinguish between cases in which someone knows something and cases in which someone does not know something. One must determine the extent of human knowledge; that is, how much do we, or can we, know?
The study of knowledge is one of the most fundamental aspects of philosophical inquiry. Any claim to knowledge must be evaluated to determine whether or not it indeed constitutes knowledge. Such an evaluation essentially requires an understanding of what knowledge is and how much knowledge is possible.
