Why do you think Descartes believes that the ideas of truth and thought are innate?
Descartes believed that certain mathematical ideas, metaphysical concepts and eternal truths were present in one’s mind when one was born. He believed that they are innate and belong to priori knowledge which was not learned later. Ideas about God and something could have never come from nothing are the examples he provides to prove that truth and thought are innate and not learnt later. This is because children for the most part observe, recognize and learn through their experience with the help of the existing knowledge that they possess from the birth. Today, we could attribute it to the evolutionary concept where each passing generation made enough changes in their genes and when it was passed to the next generation thus the source of knowledge is bundled which requires a favourable environment to be brought out.
