Case Study #2 Demography Name: Taylor Age: 34 Ht: 5 ft 2 in (157.5 cm) Sex: Female Race: African American Wt: 178 lb Family History Father (age 67) had a quadruple bypass at the age of 46. Mother (age 57) had two transient ischemic attacks this year. Older brother (age 35) had stints implanted for coronary artery blockage. Medical History Present/Past Conditions A recent physical exam revealed no health concerns. This client has a resting heart rate (HR) of 58 beats per minute (bpm) and her resting blood pressure (BP) in 118/78. She has a total cholesterol of 218 mg/dl. Her high-density lipoprotein (HDL) level is 58 mg/dl and triglycerides are 110 mg/dl. She recently had a maximal oxygen consumption test that indicates her VO2max is 36 ml/kg/min. The electrocardiogram (ECG) results of the maximal stress test indicated no known abnormalities except for an isolated PVC which is likely stress related. Patient did smoke one half a pack of cigarettes a day, but quit last month. Patient drinks an average of 2-3 glasses of wine per day. Taylor is treated for anxiety. She also takes a 25mg dose of atenolol once per day. Behavior and Risk Assessment Client goes to the gym 2 times per week, for about 30 minutes each visit. Her training usually consists of circuit training. She has a diet that consists of lean sources of protein and is rich in complex carbohydrates and vegetables. The client states wants to be healthy due to her immediate family's health conditions. She has been experiencing unexplained shortness of breath recently that is interfering with exercise and activities of daily living.
