Hello, can you please assist with the following:
Name a common diagnostic/screening test used in public health. Is
it more important for the test to be sensitive or for it to be
specific? Why? What would be the implications if the result were a
false positive? What if there was a false negative result?
Thank you
Mammography is a common diagnostic test /screening test used in public health, which is used to test breast cancer.
Mammography should be sensitive, its because the sensitivity of a diagnostic test means the ability of the test to identify truly diseased people or true positive people.
Specificity means the ability of a diagnostic test to identify the person without the disease means to identify true negative people.
So, a test should be sensitive.
False-positive means wrongly positive, If the test shows a positive result in a healthy individual then it is defined as false positive. False-positive is seen in high sensitive tests.
False-negative means wrongly negative, If the test shows a negative result in a diseased individual then it is defined as a false negative.

Hello, please assist with the following: An ongoing theme in public and/or political discussion is Personal Responsibility versus Government intervention. What part of health or other life outcomes is attributable to personal responsibility, and how much can be based on social and environmental factors which could benefit from programs? Prenatal Screening test Prenatal screening is a non-invasive type of testing that is available to all pregnant individuals in Ontario. Non-invasive means that there is no risk to the pregnant person or the baby. Screening uses ultrasound, blood work or some combination of both to get information about the likelihood of a baby having a specific health condition. Screening tests do not tell you for sure if the baby has the condition, only what the chance is. A physician will...

The most commonly used screening test for detection of Diabetes Mellitus is Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG) test. However, like almost all screening tests, this test is not 100% accurate. In order to evaluate the FBG test carried out by a specific device: 'OneTouch Ultra 2' meter, a more rigorous test is used (a gold standard), which is the Glucose tolerance test. The Table below summarizes the data collected from the study to evaluate the FBG screening test. Please, calculate all...
To prevent developing a certain type of cancer, Health Canada organize a diagnostic test. The false positive and negative rates for this diagnostic test are five percent and four percent, respectively. Assume that five percent of the population has this type of cancer. Assume that the test results are...

Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test is a common screening test used for detecting prostate cancer. From Harvard Medical School “Prostate Knowledge” webpage. Is PSA reliable? Although PSA testing can help catch prostate cancer at an early stage, having an elevated PSA (generally considered more than 4 ng/ml) doesn’t necessarily mean that a man has cancer. Noncancerous conditions, including benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), or an enlarged prostate, and prostatitis, can raise PSA levels. In fact, studies have shown that about 75% of...
