As vastus lateralis muscle has no large blood vessel and nerve so risk of injury is less. Also this muscle has large muscle mass, therefore child has less chances of severe local reactions.

anatomic location: it lies in lateral middle third of thigh between the greater trochanter and knee. . Locate upper and lower anatomical landmarks that are greater trochanter of femur and patella. Dear imaginary line between two, then imagine thigh to be divided in three parts. Correct site is middle third and outer aspect of imaginary line.
