Periodontitis is a chronic destructive disease of the supporting structures of teeth like gingiva, alveolar bone collectively called periodontium. The cause is the imbalance between the oral microbial flora and host immune defense mecchanism.

The treatment happens in 2 phases

1st phase to stop the etiology

2nd phase to correct the consequences caused by disease.

To perform scaling will eliminate the irritants to the gingiva.

The periodontal pocket is corrected by resection followed by closing of the pocket by regenerated alveolar bone.

Types of clinical periodontal degeneration:

1. Conservative debridement:

2. Radicular conditioners

3. Guided tissue regeneration

GTP by nonresorbable membrane

GTP by biodegradable membrane

GTP by mixed using bone grafts

4. New approaches such as PDGF, IGF, enamel derived factir etc is applied in PR.
