Tom: The client is Courtney Smith. She’s a 10-year-old who has Cystic Fibrosis. She developed a cough approximately 3 weeks a go and her mother took her to the clinic. After obtaining a history from the family, the provider performed a sweat-chloride test in the clinic, and the results came back positive. The provider is Dr. Catherine Nelson. The referral is to educate the family on Cystic Fibrosis.

In this case, there is a 10 years old patient with Cystic Fibrosis.

Dr. Catherine Nelson confirms the diagnosis and refers the patient's family to an educator for health education about Cystic Fibrosis.

1. This is an example of tertiary prevention. Tertiary prevention is based on the patient who already affected by the disease. This prevention mainly aims to reduce complications, disability related to disease and improves the quality of life.

Here the patient already have cystic fibrosis, which is an inherited disease with no cure. so, Dr. Catherine Nelson refers to educate them to get knowledge regarding disease and to improve the quality of life of the patient.

2. Cystic fibrosis is a degenerative disorder with no cure but the symptoms can be treated and the quality of life can be increased.

The nurse should first educate them about the condition.

These patients are very prone to get an infection which can again worsen the condition, so, the nurse should teach them how to avoid infection.

Regular bronco dilators and some other medication can help the patient so, the nurse should tell them about medication and regular follow up.

the patient digestive tract also secrets sticky mucus so, the patient's body faced difficulty in absorbing nutrients which leads to malnutrition, To solve this problem nurse should advise them to give the paint high calorie and high-fat food.
