Slide 4
A national survey conducted in US regarding the birth order and breastfeeding initiation and effects. The results of the survey revealed that 72% US women is initiating breastfeeding exclusively for the babies, among this 70% women are offering the same feeding methods for each of their child.
Slide 5
Research studies show that women who had breastfed their first child is more likely to breastfed their second child with interest and Motivation.
Slide 6
Birth Duration and breast feeding
Research studies from developing and under developed countries show that less duration in between the births or the less child spacing negatively affects the breastfeeding. Example: Women who are getting pregnant within 6 months of first delivery, likely to stop the breastfeeding for the first child for the sake of second child. ( They may often in poor nutrition, so they may not feel energy to breast fed the first child while they are pregnant).
Slide 7
Research studies conducted to assess the breastfeeding practices of single, young mothers, shown that, usually first born babies will not get breast feeding beyond 3 months. The young mothers, who are single may be reluctant to give breastfeeding to their first born, and there may not be much family and social support also.
Slide 8
In the above said cases, most time the first born babies become illfed by their mother's breast milk. By the time they get their second baby , they may be settled or married, so the second baby may enjoy the early initiation and adequate duration of breastfeeding.
Slide 9
Studies conducted among women with multiple children, shown that , mothers are having the same interest to breastfed their 2nd, 3rd or 4th child with the same motivation and happiness.
Slide 10
Proper and adequate duration of Birth order ensures good breastfeeding , early initiation and consistency among mothers.
