The social, psychological, emotional and environmental facts are the factors that impact on the decision regarding infant nourishment. Studies have shown that both father’s and mother’s involvement influences strongly on success of breast feeding among mothers in US. Breastfeeding initiation and duration are influenced by various factors. A positive attitude and a good knowledge about the benefits of breast feeding have a strong influence on initiation and duration of breast feeding. Mother’s perception to father’s attitude has found as the most significant factor to initiate bottle feeding. Early post partum period is the well accepted time for establishing and supporting breast feeding. An increase in breast feeding rate can be attained by enhancing the social support.

According to a research in United States percent of infants who begun breast feeding is high at 77% , but the infant are not breast feed for as long as recommended. On the survey conducted on 2010, 48% were breast feeding at 6 months and only 27% at 12 months. In 2020, 60.6% breast feed upto 6 months and 34.1% upto 12 months. Despite the high rate of initiation of breast feeding, duration rate is found decreasing as the child get older.
