When some of her friends and classmates told her about an outbreak of flu-like symptoms sweeping her campus during the past 2 weeks, Lily figured she shouldn't take her 3-day sore throat lightly. Your clinic has treated a few cases similar to Lily's. All the patients reported decreased appetite, headaches, and pain with swallowing. As Lily recounts these symptoms to you, you notice that she has a runny nose and a slight hoarseness in her voice but doesn't sound congested.

Flu commonly caused by a group of viruses mostly affecting the respiratory system. The symptoms ranges from sorethroat, fever, runny nose, itchy eyes,hoarseness of voice, tiredness and coughing.

Your clinic has treated a few cases similar to Lily's. All the patients reported decreased appetite, headaches, and pain with swallowing. As Lily recounts these symptoms to you, you notice that she has a runny nose and a slight hoarseness in her voice but doesn't sound congested.

Objective data:

Vital signs: Temperature - N, Blood prssure- 120/80 mm hg. Pulse - 100 beats per minute,

Nasal turbinates - congested, Sinuses- pain on percussion,

Voice = hoarseness.

Chest- Airentry adequate , bilateral entry.

Skin - Norashes,cyanosis.

Extremities - pallor, no cyanosis, clubbing, edema.

Assessment - Influenza

Plan:

1) Obtaining throat swabs to identify organisms.

2) Restrict patient movement to prevent transmission of infection.

3) Educate patient to cover nose and mouth during coughing and sneezing.

4) Periodical wasshing of hands to maintain and hygiene.

5) Social isolation

6) Plenty of water intake to loosen secretions.

7) Administering Anti viral drugs to treat flu like symptoms.
