Investments in new clinical practices do not stop with their developers; enormous effort and resources are directed to introducing new clinical knowledge to healthcare organizations. These investments include mobilizing human resources through the establishment of knowledge brokers, evidence-based practice committees or teams and identifying opinion leaders and champions who will support the practice excellence. Additionally, resources are spent developing educational programs and social marketing strategies to influence knowledge uptake; purchasing new equipment or supplies; setting up new work processes and approaches in caring for patients; and changing policies and procedures. It is therefore imperative that there be effective ways to ensure that these investments provide competitive advantage, long-term impact and cost-effective benefits.
