Regarding nutrients, which ones only serve as "building blocks", contributing to and maintaining the structure of the body? What is the function that all the others also have or have instead?

A drug is defined by most experts as "any substance ingested or put in the body other than food or nutrients". While alcohol, like what is found in any fermented beverage we might consume, has stored chemical energy that is released when it is broken down in the body, With some crude calculation, we could arrive at the result that a 12 oz can of beer off a grocery store shelf would have about 15 g of alcohol. Based on the metrics in the text, how many kilocalories would this contribute to the beverage? Consider that beer has some carbohydrates in it as well; why could these two factors (this and your first answer) present a problem for chronic alcoholics?
