Andy was assigned to take care of 14 year old girl Amanda who admitted in hospital with large tumor in left groin area and she tells to Andy that she feel ashamed of not having breast and her girlfriends have botfriends too . Later CT scan was done and found that tumour extends to the ovary. So gynecological female surgeon called to evaluate this and with ultrasonic guided biopsy performed and found that she has both Male and female gonads. Therefore, Amanda's parents requested to the surgeon and not telling about this to Amanda and they were amadant regarding Amanda don't need to know about this condition.. but surgeon refuses to do so. Andy believes that Amanda's parents should discuss with her daughter as they are denying her choices. when she returned to the Amanda's room then Amanda starts questioning about tests and treatment. In answering Andy hesitates and Amanda picks up on this and demanding that he tell her the truth.. what are the ethical principles in this conflict ? explain in detail
Ethically seeing patient has all the rights to know about their condition and what treatment you are planning to give. at same time if patient doesn’t want to know about the condition you can do that too. Also, she has the right to refuse the treatment too. but since the patient is minor, we have to take opinion from parents. even though it is unethical not to tell her about the condition, same time Andy is informing patient without parental consent unethically.
another aspect behind this is since the patient is minor, psychological aspects behind this more important. already according to observations, Amanda is little depressed about not having breast. maybe this information about her condition will lead her to a complete depression and may lose hope in medical science. she needs a lot of courage and will power at this time.
so, Andy have to be telling this in a very polite, simple, understandable manner, in which Amanda have to be understanding it as a minor problem.
for that you can add the recovery stories of the previous clients
researches made on this topic and presented
a story line has to be prepared before telling this to Amanda considering her mental health
