1a)

  • Human bodies require energy and metabolism is the source of energy.
  • Metabolism is the process by which body converts food into energy. The body requires this energy to perform basic functions like breathing, circulating the blood etc. this is called -basal metabolic rate.
  • This basal metabolic rate is affected by various factors like
  • MUSCLE MASS( muscle requires more energy to function so more muscle more energy is required. so, basal metabolic rate will be high).
  • AGE(As we get older, the metabolic rate slows down due to loss of muscle tissue).
  • PHYSICAL ACTIVITY( exercise boosts the metabolism rate)
  • HORMONES( Conditions like hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism affect metabolism).

1b)

  • To stay alive and function ,the body reuires energy. This energy comes from metabolism
  • Exercise is a great way to improve energy levels.During exercise, more calories are burnt leading to production of energy.
  • Regular physical activity improves muscle strength, thus boosting the rate of metabolism.
  • It also delivers oxygen, nutients and improve blood circulation to heart and lungs making the person healthier.
