The structure and types of health information exchange;

Directed Exchange provides health care providers with the ability to electronically receive and send secure information for example; laboratory orders and results, patient referrals, etc.

Query-Based Exchange: as it gives the health care providers the ability to find and/or requesting the information on a patient from other providers and it is often used for /emergency/ unplanned care.

Consumer Mediated Exchange; gives patients the ability to aggregate and manage the health information on the Internet. When in control of one’s own health information, patients can help in transferring the information between providers, such as medical, or billing information, and for tracking and monitoring their own health.
